T-rex with Christmas Sweater

If dinosaurs were still around to wear Christmas sweaters, they'd probably have a Jeff Goldblum design. Quarter for scale.

Dry Bones 3D Mesh

I made Mario Bros themed Halloween decorations this year. I'll have photos of the decorations in my next post. I was inspired to create this Dry Bones mask for my first “from scratch” pepakura build. The 3D mesh was created using Blender and then exported as a .3DS file. I got as far as unfolding the mesh with Pepakura Designer. Unfortunately, I won't be able to finish cutting it out and gluing it together by Halloween (tomorrow).

Stacia & James

Happy Friday! This is a drawing of my family on a lazy night. James decided to move and sit next to me early on in my drawing session. Luckily I had a backup model, my wife. She was a good sport. I love you, babe!

James Wants Something

It's been a while since I've done any life drawings and I wanted to start drawing again. I have a tiny sketchbook that I'd love to fill up. For my jump start at being artsy again, I have James as my ready, willing, and able model. He likes to stand between the sofa and ottoman while staring at me for long periods of time. I pay him in kibble and belly rubs.

Pepakura - Samus Aran Chest

If you read any of my tips from my previous post, I didn't follow my own tip to measure. This chest piece only took me 2 tries. Version 1 This was at 10% bigger than the original file, which is what I ended up with on my helmet. I had to cut out a bigger opening for my neck. It matches my version 2 helmet perfectly. Version 2 This time, I set the measurement to 15.5" wide, instead of a percentage. It fits me nicely, however I think I'll still have to open up the opening for my neck in order for my head to fit through. Front view: Back view: And with that, here's my first ever bathroom selfie…

Samus Aran Helmet - Key Takeaways

I have a few updates since I finished crafting the helmet. I've had to remake it two more times. First, my dog ate my helmet. The first iteration was sized too big. I didn't really follow sizing tutorials and winged it. I took the original .pdo file and resized it bigger by 10%, and then again for another 10%. For my second try, I used the original unedited file. That one ended up too small. My chin didn't quite fit into the helmet. My final piece was sized at 10% bigger and it was juuuust right. Notes If you plan on trying out Pepakura, here are some things that I've learned from this experience: When prepping the .pdo file for printing, edit the file so each segment fits on a sheet. In Pepakura Designer 4, press Ctrl + N to "Join/Disjoin Faces". Measure, measure, measure! Although, who knows if I'll follow this tip. I'm a trial and error type of person. Protect your surfaces. Use a proper cutting board. Protect your wrists. Use a precis...
